How to Maximize Space When Working From Home

Working from a home office can be difficult - managing all of your different space designations, while maintaining a clear delineation between home and office can be a daunting task. There are some great resources out there for maximizing space when creating a home office. I have to say there is a lot to be gained by having a well organized and planned home office. The resulting boost in productivity and efficiency can be quite significant. If you’re really looking for some inspiration on how to maximize space, in all parts of your home, take a look at these articles one from Real Simple and another which demonstrates how to turn an bedroom into an office in 60 seconds.

How to Store Books

There are a ton of great articles out there on book storage and packing tips, but it never ceases to amaze me as to how many queries I get on this topic. In any event, I went searching and tried to come up with a diverse spread of these resources. Some are great, others, just good. I hope this is a great aggregate of resources for booksellers with thousands of books and book collectors with shelves full of rare and collectible books alike.

The Woes of Book Scouting

It is a tough world out there scouting for books these days. The professional demeanor of certain sellers (and their minions) is despicable. There is no softer way to put it. I see today that IOBA will begin publishing a column entitled “Library Sale Shenanigans.”

I enjoy commiserating with these woes just as much as anyone else. Nevertheless, I think that rather than soap boxing, our industry would be best served by working toward creating some collaborative document on book sale ethics and behavior.

To that end, I’ve created a wiki, hosted on Book Sale Scout, entitled “Book Sale Etiquette.” If you are unaware of what wikis are check out this documentation. Basically, over the course of time, if we can get quality input, we’ll have a nice collaborative document which implicitly states standard etiquette for book sales. I was going to kick the wiki off with a barebones document, but I did not want to influence the trajectory of the document in any way.
